The Roof Gardens
finalist at the 2016 Housebuilder Awards
The Roof Gardens, One Ellesmere Street, DeTrafford Estates’ pioneering development of 71 new homes in Castlefield has been shortlisted for ‘Best Design for Four Storeys or More’ in the prestigious Housebuilder Awards.
Organised by Housebuilder magazine and supported by the Home Builders Federation and the National House Building Council, the awards are geared to reward innovation and excellence. They seek to recognise those in the industry who are improving quality, design, efficiency and customer care in house building.
The Roof Gardens will provide attractive outdoor living space at the edge of Manchester city centre with all homes featuring individual private roof gardens, marrying suburban comforts with inner city living.
Most of the accommodation is aimed at families with 49 two, three and four bedroom townhouses plus 22 one bedroom apartments. The scheme is characterised by a perimeter block layout which follows the form of the local area with two tree-lined courtyards at the heart of the development providing private space for parking and amenity.
Building materials have been chosen to complement the character of the nearby conservation area and Manchester’s industrial heritage. The building will be crowned with a frame of louvred Corten steel providing privacy for the roof terraces and will be illuminated at night in a warm orange glow. Work on the development is being undertaken by Pochin Construction Ltd and is due to be completed Q1 2017. Demand has been strong and all homes have been sold.
Winners will be announced at a black tie awards evening in November at the InterContinental Hotel London at the O2. The Roof Gardens was previously a finalist at the 2013 Housing Design Awards.
